How do Wix’s prices compare to other website builders?
Let’s see how Wix compares with other companies for non-ecommerce websites. For each of them, we picked the cheapest ad-free premium plan that allows you to connect a custom domain name. Find a full list of Wix alternatives here.
Provider | Regular website | Online store |
---|---|---|
Wix | $17 / month | $29 / month |
Hostinger | $9.99 / month | $11.99 / month |
Webnode | $12.90 / month | $12.90 / month |
Weebly | $12 / month | $25 / month |
Squarespace | $16 / month | $23 / month |
Shopify | N/A | $39 / month |
At first glance, it may seem like Wix is an expensive website builder, you’ll have to shell out at least $17 per month. That being said, except for Hostinger, the rest of the site builders have a similar price tag.
It should be noted, too, that Wix is a more mature web creation tool than most, and it offers more features and options than, for example, Hostinger, Weebly, or Webnode.
If you’re looking to create an online store, Wix will cost you $29 per month, quite a bit more than some of the platforms listed earlier (e.g. Hostinger or Webnode). But the truth is that Wix is much better for selling products online (read review). The only platform comparable to Wix could be Shopify, which will cost you a minimum of $39 per month.
What does Each Wix Premium Plan Include?
Regular Websites
Light comes with a domain name if you pick a yearly subscription. You can get .com, .net, .org, .biz and a few other extensions (see screenshot). Please note that it’s only free for the first year, the regular price is around $17.35 per year. It also allows you to connect existing domain names with your Wix website builder.
Light has everything except an online store and business apps (e.g. Bookings, Events, Restaurants, etc.) – the main difference to the Core plan.
You can always upgrade your plan, and your existing funds will be credited. Light’s data limits are more than sufficient for most websites.
Ecommerce Websites
Starting with the Core plan, you can accept online payments through your website and also use Wix’s online store.
Additionally, you’ll also be able to use the most interesting Wix premium apps like Wix Hotels, Wix Restaurants, Wix Bookings or Wix Music (available through the Wix App Market).
Wix Business adds advanced features like better shipping options, the possibility to offer more dropshipping products and use a dedicated too for automated sales tax. There are no commission fees charged by Wix (other than transaction costs for your payment gateway).
Business Elite can be valuable if you need really fast customer support. In addition to that Wix increases some of the limits for dropshipping, product reviews and lets you offer a loyalty program for your store. In most cases, it’s probably not worth the upgrade.
Sidenote: Keep in mind that you can test the online store and most premium apps in the free plan too. Compared to its ecommerce competitors, the online store is rather affordable. You’ll find more information in our Wix ecommerce review. You can also see how well Wix fares in our best ecommerce website builder guide.
Finally, they also offer an Enterprise plan with “Custom Pricing”. Prices start at $500 (!) per month. This plan will only be interesting if you are already a Business Elite user, hitting the limits of that plan. It includes a dedicated account manager.
How can I Pay for My Wix Subscription?
Accepted payment methods at Wix are Visa/Mastercard, American Express, JBC, Diners, and Discover. If you are based in Europe you can also pay by direct debit (SEPA). Direct debit may take 2-7 business days to process. Wix also issues VAT invoices that can be found in your account under Billing History. Paypal is currently not accepted by Wix.
What are the Wix Plans We Recommend the Most?
Based on 1,292 completions, our Smart Finder tool recommended the following plans:
You can see that Wix Combo (now called Light) was the best match for most people wanting to create a regular website. It was the top recommendation 474 times (37%). For ecommerce, Wix Business Basic (now called Core) was recommended 409 times (32%).
This result is based on 1,972 Smart Finder engagements, of which, 1,292 were completed, in a time frame of 7 weeks. Another 2% were recommended the Free plan. The Pro and Enterprise plans weren’t included in the results as they are only relevant to a tiny segment of all Wix users.
Take the test, find it at the top of this page, if you’d like to receive your own personal recommendation.
What about Email Accounts?
One thing Wix doesn’t solve particularly well is email accounts for your domain name. You can sign up for Google Workspace through them but you’ll have to pay $6 per month.
An alternative solution is to purchase the domain name through a third party (e.g. Namecheap) and get a custom email address from there. This will cost you around $15 per year.
The cheapest option is Zoho Workplace, where you get up to 5 custom email addresses for free. It’s similar to Google Workspace, but it’s not quite as feature-rich or easy to use.
What about Email Marketing?
Since Wix decided to discontinue Wix Ascend, most additional marketing tools that were part of it (think of contact forms, live chat, and email marketing) have now been included in Wix’s standard subscriptions. Users should be happy with these changes; since it’s way more convenient (and cheaper) to get everything from a Wix plan directly.
Email marketing is the only feature that needs to be purchased separately since this major update (although there is still a free version available).
Wix launched separate Email Marketing plans for users interested in more advanced features, such as segmentation, scheduling options, and a higher monthly sending allowance.
There are 3 paid plans available:
- Essentials: $10/month (500 monthly emails)
- Core: $24/month (5.000 monthly emails)
- Advanced: $49/month (1,000,000 monthly emails)
As we’ve mentioned before, there’s also a free version of the email marketing tool that allows users to send up to 200 emails per month. You can upgrade to a paid plan and receive a full refund within 14 days if you decide it’s not for you.
Summary of Wix’s Website and Ecommerce Pricing:
Here’s our quick summary of all 9 Wix pricing tiers. Prices are shown for the annual billing option.
- Free: $0 forever. Gives you access to all templates and most features. Ad-supported without a proper domain name.
- Light: $17/month. Use your domain and remove Wix’s branding. Great for personal and small business sites.
- Core: $29/month. The best plan for ecommerce websites (smaller online stores and sites with online booking etc.).
- Business: $36. Get professional ecommerce features and more storage (100GB).
- Business Elite: $159. Priority support for store owners and the full array of ecommerce features.
- Enterprise: starting at $500/month. Enjoy phone support. If you need this plan, you probably already know it.
Final Thoughts – Is Wix Good Value?
Here’s the short answer: Wix can offer great value for your money, but finding the right plan for your needs is key.
For those who aren’t looking to run an e-commerce site, the Light plan is often the best bet. It’s ad-free and includes your own domain name. So, unless you plan to upload thousands of images or a bunch of videos, you can probably skip the other website plans for now. And don’t forget, upgrading later is always an option!
If you’re interested in launching an e-commerce website, we recommend starting with the Core plan. It’s the most affordable option that allows you to accept online payments. Plus, we appreciate that Wix offers monthly payment plans, a feature that many other website builders only include in their yearly subscriptions.

Wix sometimes offers discounts of up to 50%. Unfortunately, they often exclude Light and the Core plan – the plans we recommend the most!
In this case, we advise you to take advantage of the offer only if you’d consider at least a 2 or even 3-year plan. This way your savings will be significant.
Just don’t forget to downgrade your plan after the initial 2 or 3-year period if you don’t need the extra features!
